it took me about 3 years in actual continuas time from the moment i put the first man toghter till now.
But in actual time spent on them probably about 4-5 weeks maybe.

The main thing that held me back was the sheer boardom of it ( the only down side of a simple colour scheme)

naa not really. 1 sprue will do you 48 mines, I only put about 8-10 on each marker. (plus i had em spare in my bitz box anyway).

Waaaaaaaaaghh!!!! Hill Billies!

My next project is going to be a 40K ork army.

Hillbilly style :!:

This is going to be an "interesting project" that should produce some hopefully funny results.

Right i think i better explain the method in my madness here, and tell you how i came up with this idea.
Right it all started with me thinking what to do next, i have been wanting to do the new orks since the new stuff started appearing on the web site. The new vamps as well have also really sparked my interest recently. So i was looking for some inperation from somewhere. The first thing that got me onto another 40K army was the fact that i am going to need a 1500point force for a shop game in about 2-3months time, now most normal people would use the force they have just painted (soul drinkers) but as we all know i ain't normal  . This means brand new 40K army coming up.
So Orks it was, I wanted to keep the rusty effect that i had done on my WFB orcs as well, so now all i needed was a theme. At first i had loads of ideas buzzing around in my head to do with the clans. Evil sunz speed freaks really appealed as the new trukk models are stunning and i love the new bikers, sadly everyone does speed freaks and i was looking for something different. Bad moons then came to mind, the ork army i have done in the past which didn't go to well :( This fact very quickly ruled them out of the running as i wasn't going through that again.
Snakebites then popped into my head (not a faction that i have ever considered before) and the first image that spang to mind was of a "local" looking Ork picking his nose and wearing dungeries (which made me smile) as i began thinking about it more and more things fell into place, snakebites are discribed as orks that live off the land, and are very good at raising live stock :) . add in the rusty kit they are going to be carrying, some knacked trukks and some ingeinious enginering and bosh you got your self a band of Ork hillbillies.

So that was the plan, now all i needed to do was to start thinking of how i was gong to get the all important theme across on the models.
Here is a list of some of the ideas i came up with on the spot:

Dungeries
Tabaco chewing
Shot guns and rifles
Hill billies style trukks
Squig on a rope (wreaker ball)
Squig powered trukks
Muck spreaders (burnas)
Gas trukks
Grot farm hands
Ork on a swing painting the trukk (red paint job)
Squigeons :!: (see deffsquadren comic)
Ma and Pa Ork
Banjos
Straw hats
Gas station base ball caps
sandy / dusty colours
Rust buckets
Flaming bottles as bombs (see saving private ryan)
House on a battle wagon with a porch and rocking chair
Dim witted boyz (more than usual)
Farm yard machinery
Muck spreader towed behing a trukk
etc.

Now this list will not all make it into the army as there are some rather daft ones in there.

But it is happening, and i am already half way though 2 squads of Boyz and a trukk.

pics will be up loaded soon.

Any other ideas and suggestions are welcome?

thats sounds very funny, is it for GT also? u could also do a lynching squad or sumfin that would fit the them :) i think though u really need ur comander to be on a rocking chair and holding a banjo, that has to be done! wow its snowing  :D :D 8) :P   8)

finished the minefields so though i had better post a pic, they did really well for me taking out half a unit of tau fire warriors, a chaos rhino, 4 Berzekers and some other bits and pieces as well.

Not bad for 85points (much better than the vengence ones).
