Sam Jay's Diary

Postby Samajy_Studios on Sun Nov 04, 2007 4:58 pm

hello all. this is such a good idea these diaries mainly becuase it means we can all help each other with their armys or wat ever. well anyway heres a pic of my work stationImage
it could do with a clean. so anyway at the moment during thursday night a guy called rob is running a campaing similar to an articall posted in the wite drawf magazine ages ago (the tale of four battles). basically we get 9 weeks to paint 1500pts of 40k. i have chosen to do pre heresey emp children;nice purple armour and resin eagle shoulder pads, always a good combo. Image the company i work for (dark art studios) has designed a few sm sholder pads, theres an eagle one which is awsome and we have made a laytex mould and can produce loads. they don't look like the proper emp children ones but they do look awsome(in my oppinion better).

i have tried the colour schem out twice. one with black under coat and one with white. the black one was worse than painting white arghhhh. the white one looks well good and took only an hour to paint the armour(and that was on terminator armour)ImageImage
hope u enjoy. this is squire sam singning out

well ive had the idea for a while now, i think ever since i started reading the horus heresy ive wanted to do that army, mainly cos ive never seen one before. i was talking to dan at GW on sat about bases and he was saying about the emp children's nome world was a masive jugle of mushrooms. so i think im going to get some of those modeling leaves and make a variety of different mushrooms(button, toadstools etc...). it is rediculous though becuase beau and i have done this conversion commision for a guy called jhon levvet and he has paid beau his £40 but haswn't given me my payment of spacemarines, a bit sh*t really cos i have 2 weeks on thursay to paint 21 marines  :(  :!: :!: :o :x any tips?

John will get the stuff to u soon (fingers crossed)

Best tip for when they do arrive.

*Base coat*

If all else fails just get the basics on your model:
main armour colour
shoulder pads
Faces
Guns
etc.

If nothing else this will mean that you will still be able to achieve what you need to for the painting challenge

You can always tart em up later on.

Or

Alternively do u have any other sections of the army that you could work on in the mean time?

not bad little force to start with
is the choice of weaponry in the squads what johns atuff comes with or is there some cunning plan behind the power fist and heavy bolter combo?

lol. listen to this
WARHAMMER 40,000: DAWN OF WAR - SOULSTORM ANNOUNCED
Next iteration in the acclaimed RTS series on the way

Spring 2008 will see the return of the Dawn of War series to PC. Like its predecessors, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm will be a standalone expansion, playable with or without previous iterations; and this time containing 2 new playable factions, one of which is the malicious Dark Eldar, bringing the grand total to 9.

The new chapter will feature an entire intergalactic campaign, spanning not just a planet, but an entire star system - building on the revolutionary meta-game from Dark Crusade. Soulstorm will also introduce air units, additional units for the existing 7 races, and multiplayer achievements to boot.

RTS and Warhammer 40,000 fans are in for a treat then, as Relic, in association with Iron Lore Entertainment, continues its tradition of genre leading gameplay and strategic depth. We'll have plenty more on this soon, so stay tuned.

i have finished one squad, except for the shoulder pads. i have an idea for the base here it is:-
forest leaves (atumn,spring)
mushrooms (at little cluster,varying hights)
heroes with slate.
any tips on how i could achieve this. maybe some links or shop titles that sell leaves for bases

Leaves, ummmmm they do sell them in langleys but i think there about £6 or something not cheap.

A website to check out is woodland scenics, good selection of stuff for groundwork.

Will look very nice when done.

I like the marine in blue, the scroll could do with abit more weathering, abit darker around the edges and at the bottom, especialy with a forst basem imagine all the damp and mud it would collect.

Allways blend the miniature into the base, if not he looks like a miniature on a base instead of being apart of it.
