My first post here...
Evil or Very Mad Has anyone else read this month's White Dwarf (No.341)? With the impending release of Daemons of Chaos it seems that Hordes of Chaos armies are now illegal!
GW intend to create a 'get you by' mortal type list next month and the mag also says there will be a new Chaos Warrior army book 'very soon'
No more mixing Mortal/Daemon/ Beast
This is terrible news as far as I am concerned. A mortal army is a one-trick pony kind of army and it was the ability to spice things up with a daemon or ten that made it work.
The new Daemon army is emphasising the need to mix your Gods too. An all Slaanesh army for example will not win many tournaments with the limited choices available.

Perssonally, I think its a 'wait and see'. The new chaos book will have no doubt new units to fill the gap. As for the daemons yes, slaanesh are weaker, but the other Gods could give a single type army, which is competitive.

Warhammer isn't just about 'winning tournaments' IMHO.

GW want to sell figures, hence why they are encouraging people to get more daemons. If they don't sell well enough,no doubt in 8th they'll be combined, or confined to rare choices.

I started with Slaanesh 8 years ago when they were ridiculously good. Now, they need careful use in a unidaemon army, but make good flanking units combined with nurgle or Khorne.

Just as well, eh Mike? Wink Laughing

Anyway, will be interesting to see what they come up with for the interim Mortals list in White Dwarf.
I'd say that you can get some decent builds out of the Beasts book on its own, and the new deamons look quite interesting. But straight mortals (no skirmishers or units of fliers) could be tricky.

Hope they make a better stab at the WD list than some of the variant race lists in the past. (Zombie Pirates and Cairn Wraiths were fun and fluffy but had rules holes all over the place).
