GW foundation paints

OK now you have all had plenty of time to play around with them what do you really think?

A good idea or a waste of time?

My opinion may seem somewhat biased

but i like the paints
they are not a replacement for the normal paints, nor do you use them as regually as the core colours.
however when it comes to army painting they really come into there own, they can just give you that first layer that can really speed up the process

As an example me and dan managed to do most of 30 HE's for the shop todayin about 4 hours in red and yellow, something that would have normally taken us possibly a week without them.

Granted you tend to gravitate to a few you really like and don't use the entire set, but it is the same with all paint ranges.

as i am typing this i am currently painting mecrite over black on a HE wizard

Anything that speeds up my painting is welcome, but in the end they are just an adittion to the paint range.

They are realy good. If you need something done quickly they are great. I still havent properly incorporated into my general painting but im experimenting with them all the time!

My current reccomendations

Astronomicon grey- great if yu want to paint white on black
mecrite red- no more red on black worries
orkhide shade- nice dark green to basecoat your orcs with

the rest I have not used so much but if they are as good as these they will be a regular part of my painting.

They had some nice dark colours that go well with my Vallejo collection.

But I am just using them in the same way as my other paints, thinned quite a bit. Though I do paint over a white undercoat so I don't need to worry about that colour over black thing.

I have to admit I am and was worried it would make some people lazy, which has been the case, however people have also put them to good use which is cool.

Vallejo paints are nice and I like the pastel look which is currently popular. I am going to paint a 40k Chaos army now and I am going to paint it better than the one I won the painting comp at conflict with so... hopefully it will look the nuts :D

In that case I cant wait to see it!!!

I agree Val have a great range of paints and i use them at times.

Foundation paints make an apperance from time to time on my miniatures but I dont religiously use them.

Saying that with my new eldar on the go there time might have come.

I have tried GW foundation paints and Privateer press P3 paints and i cant see much diffirence..there both quite good and i think they will help to bring more original / unusual colour schemes to the gaming table...its a shame GW didnt come up with a white base coat instead of us still doing the "from Grey" base coat build up to white .
